Trees
About Trees in South Kensington
Planning, planting, and care cycles are community-wide efforts, and the events planned around them are enjoyable gatherings where neighbors become friends. Developing green corridors in the neighborhood creates continuity in a landscape often interrupted by trash-filled vacant lots and abandoned buildings.
Why Street Plantings are Important
Mature trees provide a canopy of shade to help cool cars, buildings, and streets and reduce energy usage. Street plantings often involve removing concrete to place young, healthy trees in the ground. The mulched trees help rainwater soak into the soil underneath the sidewalks, preventing the water from becoming run-off that ends up polluting our rivers.

The SK Tree Tenders are at the heart of our neighborhood's tree planting efforts and have planted over 550 trees since 2007. As they move forward with more ambitious plans to plant and maintain our neighborhood forest, the number of trained neighborhood Tree Tenders is more important than ever.
