Calling all Lawyers! We need your help! More than 10,000 Philadelphians reside in a property where ownership is in the name of a deceased relative. We call this a “Tangled Title” and it's a CRISIS.

The Philadelphia Register of Wills's office is working with local Legal Aid Organizations and started "The Probate Deferment Initiative" for low income families. Which delays fee payments so a family can address their tangled title and remain in their home. But, untangling a title is complex and they need to be represented by an Attorney. Register of Wills and the Recorder of Deeds announced the launch of the Probate Deferment Initiative (PDI). Register of Wills Tracey Gordon and Commissioner of Records Jim Leonard are waiving and deferring fees associated with "Tangled Titles." Our office will guide PDI Applicants to a free legal aid group where they will get a new will and the title fixed - free of charge. This program is designed for middle and low income families.
